Do you have frequent diarrhoea?

Many people suffer from diarrhoea frequently. You are not alone.

A recent surveyfound that many* people could suffer from diarrhoea on a frequent basis (once a month or more often). Everyone is familiar with the occasional bout of diarrhoea, but some people suffer more frequently. Typically episodes of diarrhoea clear up within a few days, but can last longer. Longer lasting or persistently recurrent diarrhoea can indicate an underlying medical condition, so you may need to consult your healthcare professional.

How often do you suffer diarrhoea?

Survey data suggests that many* people could experience diarrhoea frequently, that is once a month or more often. More frequent or persistent diarrhoea can be caused by an underlying medical condition, so you may need to see your healthcare professional. There are a number of reasons why some people experience diarrhoea more frequently, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), dietary factors, stress or anxiety, and hormonal factors. In many cases, IMODIUM® can help. When your body is out of rhythm, IMODIUM® provides gentle relief and acts to restore your body's natural rhythm by working with the body to slow the digestive system down.

Even though frequent diarrhoea is quite common, it can be hard to find reliable information on the subject and sometimes talking about it can be difficult. It can be disruptive and sometimes hard to know where to go for advice.

That’s why we’ve brought together advice in our Support & Advice section. We hope it will be a useful starting point to reduce the disruption that comes with diarrhoea.
